The Lookdown fish
The Lookdown fish scientific name is Selene vomer. It lives all around the Atlantic Ocean, bays, and sandy bottoms. The domain is Eukarya, the kingdom is Animalia, the phylum is Chordata, the class is Osteichthyes, the order is Carangidae, the genus is Selene, and the species is vomer. These fish has a small body, lower jaws, silver like body, and yellowish fins. The body is compressed, the dorsal fin helps blend in with the grass, and the Lookdown fish would rather prefer water temperatures over 60’F. The fish can be mistaken for a Moon fish because they sort of look alike, the juveniles can be found near the shore for sea grass beds, and they look down. That is how they got their name. The Lookdown fish can eat smaller fish, small worms, and they’re also heterotrophic too!
