Double-crested Cormorant
(Phalacrocorax auritus)
This species is known to live in fresh, salt, or brackish waters from North America to Alaska. They are in the domain Eukarya, kingdom Animalia, and the phylum Chordata. Also, they are in the class Aves, order Pelecaniformes, and the family Pelecancrocoridae. This organism is in the genus Phalacrocorax and species auritus. This organism has bilateral symmetry meaning that you are able to draw a line down the middle of it and the two sides would match. They have two large black wings, one black body, two black legs, and one orange beak. A structural adaptation this organism has is oil on its wings to glide through the water. A behavioral adaptation this species has is calling to each other. A structural adaptation this species also includes is the black all over its body to attract sun to dry off quicker.  Did you know that this species only gets their double crest during mating season? The predators of this organism are bald eagles, brown pelicans, and great horned owls. The prey of this organism are fish, insects, crustaceans, and amphibians. They are also heterotrophic meaning that the consume other plants and animals to get energy and they are also endothermic or commonly put to words as warm-blooded or remain at the same body temperature.
