(Crassostrea virginica)
Eastern Oyster(Crassostrea virginica)can withstand many temperatures and lives mainly in estuaries. They are in the domain Eukarya, kingdom Animalia, phylum Mollusca, class Bivalvia, order Ostreoida, family Ostreidae, genus Crassostrea, and species virginica. They are brownish-black and also have gray and white on them. A functional adaptation is that oysters can survive in 10 ppt up to 28ppt. Another functional adaptation is that they can filter water around them making it cleaner for not only them, but the organisms around it. A structural adaptation is that their hard shell not only is home for lots of little animals but it also protects them. A cool fact is they can filter a water tank in one hour and thirty minutes. They eat plankton and nutrients in water. Their predators are humans. They are heterotrophic and ectothermic. They have asymmetrical symmetry.
