Oyster Bagging Trip
A few days ago, the entire 6th grade went on a field trip to the DNR center to volunteer for score. We learned why oysters are important. Oysters are important to Charleston because they filter the water and help get the bacteria out of the water so that the water is more clean. Oysters also prevent erosion, like when a boat passes by and the over to the marsh, the oyster reef is like a barrier that helps stop the waves from passing to the shore. Oysters also are homes to many different animals that need them to keep safe from predators. The entire 6th grade worked together to make 633 bags of oysters! With all of our hard work we made enough oyster bags to make an entire reef. We will put the bags down in the spring and will wait for the oysters to reproduce and make more oysters.
