(Callinectes sapidus)
The blue crab dwells at the bottom of the saltiest gulf to almost fresh water of the back bays. Most of the time is identified by the blue shell and white tummy. Their Domain is Crustacea and its Kingdom is Animalia. Its Phylum is Arthropoda and its Class is Malacostraca. The blue crab's Order is Decapoda and its Family is Portunidae. Its Genus is Callinectes and its species is Callinectes sapidus. A structural adaptation that the blue crab has is the ability to regenerate its claw. This helps it survive by having an equal way to hunt. Another adaptation is during reproduction, the female molts. the male helps her by protecting her with his shell during the reproduction. this helps the blue crab because if there weren't anymore females, the males would soon die and not have any other generations. another adaptation the blue crab provides is structural and is its claws. One claw is used to crush its prey and the other is for ripping and tearing. This helps the blue crab by ripping and crushing its prey. it is ready for any texture of skin or shell from its prey.
