The Brown Pelican is a big bird, with one large bill. Its domain is Eukaryote, kingdom is Anamalia, phylum is Chordata, Its class is Aves. Its order Pelecaniformes. Its family is Pelecanidae. Its genus is Pelecanus. The Brown Pelican’s species is occidentalis. Its scientific name is Pelecanus Occidentalis. It lives in the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans. The Brown Pelican is endothermic and it is a heterotroph. It has bilateral symmetry. Three behavioral adaptations of the Brown Pelican are: 1) they spend up to 50% of the day on their nests! The other half of the day they spend hunting and feeding their babies. 2) they migrate south in the winter so they can enjoy a warmer climate. 3) They are very territorial and do not like sharing! The Brown Pelican eats small marine organisms. Bald Eagles and Gulls like to eat them! A fun fact is that the Brown Pelican’s eggs are eaten in restaurants!
