Laughing Gull
(Leucaphaeus atricilla)
Laughing Gull (Leucaphaeus atricilla) lives on the shorelines and beaches. They are in the domain Eukarya, kingdom Animalia, phylum Chordata, class Aves, order Charadriiformes, family Laridae, genus Leucaphaeus, and lastly, species atricilla. They are white colored birds with black heads and gray wings. A structural adaptation its small body to get out of dodge faster when humans go to the beach, a functional adaptation is its gray/white/black color to blend in with the wet sand, and a behavioral adaptation is their tendency to be in flocks (what I commonly see when I go to the beach in the summer). A cool fact is male and female laughing gulls work together to build a nest instead of only female or male bird working on the nest. Their predators are humans and their prey is insects. They are heterotrophic and have bilateral symmetry. They are also endothermic.
