Limulus-Poylphemus


 Horseshoe Crab

The scientific name for the horseshoe crab is Limulus-Polyphemus.

The horseshoe crab can be found in shallow water over sandy and muddy bottoms. The horseshoe crab’s Domain is Eukarya, its kingdom is Aniamalia and its Phylum is Chordata. Its Class is Merostomata and its Order is Xiphosura. Its Family is Limulidae and last but not least it’s Genus is limulus and its Species is Limulus Polyphemus. The horseshoe crab has a bilateral symmetry which means that if you were to fold the horseshoe crab in half and folded it together it would be equal and both sides. The horseshoe has a hard exoskeleton, ten walking legs under the shell, and at the bottom of the shell its legs are divided into three parts. Its uses its shell to protect its self and has one additional pair of legs that helps it bring food to its mouth. It walks at the bottom the bottom of shallow water. The horseshoe crab is closely related to spiders and scorpions. Its predators include Humans, Sharks, and Sea Turtles. Its prey is Dcane organisms. The horseshoe crab is a heterotrophic organism it is also exothermic.
